Portfolio (Interactive Multimedia & Design Only)
Applicants to the Interactive Multimedia and Design program are required to submit a portfolio of creative work in support of their application. Normally portfolios and academic records are considered equally when evaluating an applicant for admission to the program.
Portfolio Contents
All Portfolios should contain:
- A Cover Letter - introduce yourself and the work you are presenting; use this letter to tell us about yourself so we can understand who you are, your interests, and any other pertinent information. This letter should be no more than 1.5 pages.
- A Resume (Curriculum Vitae) - highlight your educational background, any awards or scholarships, professional activities, extra-curricular activities. This should be no more than 2 pages
- Example Index - an index of work identifying and describing each of the examples of work submitted. The purpose of this index is to make it easy to identify and understand each piece or project. Where projects were done in a team, please be explicit about your role and contribution. The index should be no more than 1.5 pages
- Examples of Creative Work - this should contain four to five pieces of creative work; good examples include: digital art, 3D modelling, stills from 2D/3D animation, web site design, game design, photos or scans of traditional art (pencils, pastels, paints, sculpture)
Portfolio Submission Process
There are three ways to submit your portfolio: Regular Paper-based Submission, Electronic DVD/CD-ROM Submission, and Electronic On-line Submission; all submissions need to be received before the 1st of March of the current year (if the 1st of March falls on a weekend or holiday, portfolios must be received by the following regular working day)
Regular Paper-based Submission
The required format is 8.5" x 11". All work, including the Cover Letter, CV, and index, must be bound together and/or organized within a binder or portfolio designed to accommodate 8.5" x 11" sheets. Portfolios must be sent or delivered to Carleton and must be received at the following address by March 1st:
IMD Admissions Committee (c/o Hana Jabi)
230 Azrieli Pavilion
Carleton University
1125 Colonel By Drive
Ottawa, ON K1S 5B6
The design of the portfolio package is, itself, part of what will be evaluated. The design and layout of the portfolio should support (i.e. not compete with) the work presented.
Electronic DVD/CD-ROM Submission
A properly packaged submission on a DVD or CD-ROM (either one or the other) submitted to the same address as the regular paper-based sumissions; submissions on DVD/CD should conform to one of the following formats:

- Submission Pieces: Portable Document Format (.pdf), JPEG (.jpg), PNG (.png), BMP (.bmp), TIFF (.tif), TARGA (.tga)
All submissions elements should be placed into the top folder (i.e. no directory hierarchy). All elements will be viewed on a Windows-based machine. - 08_Submission_5.jpg
By prefixing each submission with a number, each elements will be presented properly when the DVD/CD is loaded. Please note, you can also submit all work into a single PDF, which is the preferred method, but not expected

Notes
- For any animation work, we suggest presenting your work as a set of screenshots so that we can see the time progress
- DVD/CD-ROMs can accompany paper-based submissions, but they form only a minor part of the review
- Please select only one submission method; if a portfolio is submitted more than once only one submission will be considered
